Pony Club is about having fun while learning to ride and care for your pony. You will start off at a level appropriate for your age and ability. This may mean you start working towards your Lead Rein or "D" Certificate, then the D+, C and so on.

At rallies you will receive instruction, perhaps some horse management (caring for your pony and tack) and maybe a game on your pony. Later on, when you are ready to, you may start cross country jumping and show jumping. Eventually you may represent your branch, club or area on games, jumping, dressage or eventing teams.

Pony Club offers many opportunities and strongly promotes sportsmanship and fair play.

On rally days, allow plenty of time to groom and tack up your pony ready for gear check. This gear check is done before a rally starts and is intended to check tack fits properly and is safe. Gear will be checked to ensure there is no loose stitching, correct fitting, tight girth, helmet fastened correctly etc. It will also be checked for cleanliness!

Correct uniform should always be worn for rallies, but if you are new to the branch the only thing we insist on is that you wear an approved riding helmet and jodhpur boots with long sleeves if jumping.

There is a wealth of knowledge within Pony Club, so if you need some advice on things like purchasing tack or clothing, dealing with a tricky pony, finding a farrier or someone to clip your pony - ask around, someone will help.

All parents are encouraged to get involved. Some parents coach (Pony Club offers coaching clinics at various times throughout the year) and others help by setting up equipment for rallies and packing it away afterwards.

Flaxmere Pony Club operates successfully thanks to the generosity of sponsors and all members who give their time to help organise events, equipment and fundraising. We hold a One Day Event each year, this is our major fundraiser and all helpers welcome!!

Parents are also welcome to attend committee meetings and have their say or just ask questions. We hope you find Flaxmere Pony Club friendly and welcoming.
