Membership Types:

Sprocket Licence - This is for all riders who meet the UCI 7 or below age group. The Sprocket Licence allows riders to compete at any club or BMXNZ calnder race in NZ, including National Qualifying Meetings (NQM's), Regional Champs, or North/South Island Championships.


Island Licence - The Island Licence is for riders UCI 8 and over. The Island Licence allows riders to compete at any Club and InterClub events as well as the NQM meets (National Qualify Meets) within your licenced Island (North or South). Riders on a Island Licence CANNOT compete in any BMXNZ Major Events or Regional Champs. Also any NQM's raced, points are not obtained. Riders on the Island Licence can upgrade to a Challenge Licence for a fee but any NQM's raced while on the Island Licence CANNOT be claimed and added to your Challenge Licence.

  • Riders 8+ yrs old (UCI8) holders of an Island licence may participate in Category 8 (NQM), 9 & 10 (Club & Interclub) meetings, held within their licenced Island (North or South).
  • This licence is to introduce riders to more racing at a cost effective fee.
  • CANNOT participate in BMXNZ Major Events or Regional Champs
  • CANNOT obtain any NQM points when participating in a category 8 National Qualifying Meeting (NQM).

If you decide during the year you would like to enter other events you can 'upgrade' to a Challenge Licence for $60.


Challenge Licence -  The Challenge Licence is for riders UCI 8 and over, and like the Sproket Licence, allows riders to compete at any BMXNZ Calender race meet, Regional or Island Championships.


Championship Licence - The Championship Licence is for elite riders. Please contact the club for details.


UCI Age Group Calculation

UCI age groups for licences, and event classes can be worked out using the current year - the birth year. So your UCI age is what age you are turning that current year eg, if you are turning 8 years old any time during 2026 then from 1st Jan 2026 to 31st Dec 2026 your UCI age is 8.


Number Plates 

You can purchase these through various small businesses.

If you don't have a Plate Number please message the Gisborne BMX FB page. You can also ask at the Points Hut for information on who to purchase these off.

The plate colours and designations are:

  • 7 Years and Under Sprockets - Will receive a Plate with Licence Registration
  • UCI 8+ 20" Males - Black numbers on yellow background
  • UCI 8+ 20" Females - White numbers on blue background
  • All Cruiser Male and Female - White numbers on red background
  • All Plates MUST have the GS club suffix (same colours as numbers)
