Katharine enjoys all aspect of netball (except GD).

She spent her winter Saturdays at Pukekohe Netball Centre as a player, a coach and an umpire. She was affiliated with a few different clubs across the years, but mainly with Puni Netball while her Mum was club president, with Katharine eventually becoming Puni's club captain until she left the area to teach. Once returning to the area after travelling, she taught and coached at Onewhero Area School, before leaving netball when her eldest was born. Her eldest started Future ferns in 2019, which finally gave Katharine the push to play again, this time on Thursday mornings at Franklin Pool & Leisure, where her Mum had played 30 years ago.

Sandy and Katharine created the Goannas Netball Club at Waiuku Netball Centre after accidentally creating five teams for summer league at Pukekohe Netball Centre. She is reluctantly our treasurer, as she found our major sponsor Mainarc, who is funding our uniforms.

She plays in our Tuesday night mixed team & Thursday Women’s Social team.

She also loves to umpire on a Saturday, plus at Franklin Pool & Leisure on Tuesday nights and Thursday mornings too. As a high school and university student, she would travelling with Pukekohe's representative teams. She was also recruited into Counties Manukau Umpiring Development Squad, where she umpired at Pakaranga, Auckland and Manurewa, but she got her highest umpiring qualification through the support at Waiuku Netball Centre. Her previous umpiring qualifications have expired, but back under Eleanor Kitching mentorship at Waiuku on Saturdays she regained her Zone theory, but injured herself before her Zone practical assessment. So achieving her Zone is her #1 netball goal for 2024.

Outside of netball Katharine is a homeschool Mum to three children while running a business as a Bra Fit Stylist. She enjoys spending time around the water with her family; either in the pool, at the beach or on the boat.

Her vision for Goannas Netball Club is “to see players on the court enjoying their netball.”
