We run a number of squad swim groups:

IMPROVER:  This squad is aimed at supporting the transition of swimmers from Learn to Swim programmes to a swim club. The focus is on improving fitness and having fun in a relaxed environment whilst continuing to build on the fundamental swimming skills and techniques. Swimmers may participate in swim meets if they choose to. We have two improver squads, each taking a maximum of 8 swimmers. Both swim twice a week. The "Goggles" group swim Wednesday 3:30pm - 4:15pm and Friday 3:30pm - 4:00pm. "Fins" swim Wednesday 4:15pm - 5pm and Saturday 8:15am - 8:45am.

To enter the squad swimmers will be expected to be able to hold their technique for 50m freestyle (with a short break between the two lengths), 1 x 25 backstroke and have a decent breaststroke kick and stroke sequencing. Experience of butterfly is not required. Please book an assessment through our Membership email.

JUNIOR: This squad is aimed at supporting swimmers progressing from the Improver squad with developing the fundamentals with more advanced technique, racing skills and general fitness. They will further develop squad swimming skills and take a step up in distance and duration. Swimmers may enter swim meets if they choose to, but this squad is also designed to support swim for fitness. One hour sessions are offered on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, all based at the Taradale pool. There is no expectation to attend all sessions, nor a minimum number of sessions. However, two or more sessions a week is recommended for swimmers wanting to advance at a reasonable pace.

AGE GROUP: A mix of competitive and fitness swimmers. Continuation from the Junior squad where swimmers further develop their technique, stroke development, build endurance and enhance their racing skills in a more focussed environment. Distance and duration step up from the Junior Squad, preparing individuals for the step up to Seniors or the move to Student Fitness. Swimmers may enter swim meets if they choose to, but this squad is also designed to support swim for fitness. Session held at Taradale pool and HB Regional Aquatic centre, with two additional options to swim with our Masters & Student Fitness squads, for those struggling to make the weekday times.

SENIORS: Swim meet competitors. Within this squad we will cater for those beginning higher level training to those competing at National level. Sessions are spread across the Taradale pool and the HBRAC, utilising the long course (50m) set-up, deeper pool and diving blocks at the aquatic centre. Whilst we don’t set a minimum number of sessions, swimmers will work with their coach to establish what is required to reach the swimmers individual goals.

STUDENT FITNESS: Swimming for fun or fitness in a relaxed environment aimed student from intermediate age upwards. This will suit those wishing to swim for their own enjoyment to those training for other sports such as surf lifesaving competitions, open water swimming, water polo or triathlon. Generally, swimmers will be at least 11yo, able to swim 200m non-stop and 1 to 1.5km per session. The sessions are coached and based at the Taradale pool, with an option to join the masters at the HBRAC Pool.

Fitness swimmers can choose between a monthly membership fee or a 6 or 10 swim concession card. The annual affiliation fee applies to both options.

MASTERS: Swimming for fun or fitness in a relaxed environment. Swimmer’s training to compete in longer open water swim events, triathlons or just for general fitness. The sessions will be coached with a training programme provided. Age 18+, with no upper age limit. Sessions mixed between Taradale and HBRAC Pool.
