Hi All

We are well into summer bowling season with Club Champs two weeks in and interclub also well and truly underway with some good results coming through. The Club Champs draws for the Pairs, Triples and Fours are all posted on the notice board and on the website so you should all be able to fill in your calendars. The Match Committee have done a good job of getting this up and running and with advantage of a good second green there should be no reasons why we fall behind.

The new solar system is performing exceptionally well and is over delivering in terms of savings but it is early days and its performance is totally dependent on having clear sunny days (this is important for bowls too).

The Centre has sent out a couple of reminders regarding apparel at centre organised events. It is important that members wear the full correct club uniform for Interclub and Centre Events. The same reminder is pertinent for Club events and the requirements are clearly stated in the handbook. There is a limited supply of 2nd hand bowling apparel in the back room including some shirts from previous versions of the club uniform (these are acceptable for roll-ups). These are available to members on a first in first served basis at the cost of an appropriate donation to the pig (so therefore ultimately to St John’s who you may need one day !).

We have approximately 10 corporate bowling events scheduled between now and the end of the year. These are important fundraising events (fees and bar income) as well as an opportunity to expose new bowlers to the great game. If you get shoulder tapped to help please try and do so and then it not always the same people who carry the load.

Our pre-xmas twilight bowls has started and the players seem to be enjoying it despite the inclement weather on both of the first 2 nights. It is being played as a 12 round league with a trophy at stake at the end. If  is successful and there is sufficient interest we may run another session early next year.

Enjoy the warmer weather and the bowls over the coming months.

Latest Breaking News:

Congrats to Dennis Brewster who made it through to the finals of the Centre Singles which will be played on Finals day next year. Well done Dennis.

And to go one better (at this point at least) congrats to Rodney, Paul (Zoomee) and Hamish for taking out the Centre Triples title.

Maybe the blokes will give the girls a run for their money this year.

Straight from the Bookies. The course stewards determined that the track was too dangerous to run on at the last scheduled meet due to the inclement weather conditions. Therfore the meet has been rescheduled until the following month.

The stewards are quietly confident that the next meeting will go ahead and will be on the grass track.

Insider's Advice. We are now two matches into the summer season and some of the bowlers obviously benefited from getting in some good overs during the winter however it is interesting to see that some of the teams with big name bowlers in their ranks are struggling a bit.

The pitch is starting to play better as the season progresses and one should expect to see more and more turn as the pitch gets increased use.
