Club History

1957 - On 27 March the first meeting of the club was held in the Halswell Hall.

100 5 pound debentures were to be issued.

1958 - The first Annual General Meeting was held on 27 September.

The following officers were elected:-

President – H Brake

Senior Vice President – F Lyman

Junior Vice President – R Thompson

Subscriptions were set as follows:-

Full Member – 2 pound 2 shillings

Associate Member – 10 shillings

A Ladies section was to be included.

1959 - An Executive meeting was held regarding rules, club colours, the flag and the club pavilion was planned.

The pavilion was being built and the green was being top dressed.

On 17 October the green was officially opened.

On 20 October the Ladies opening day was held.

1961 - A combined meeting was held with the tennis club to discuss amalgamation.

1963 - The pavilion was extended and a soil shed was built.

1964 - A 4” water main was installed.

In March an indoor club was formed.

1965 - A telephone was installed.

1966 - A mower shed was added.

1967 - A veranda was added to the pavilion.

1970 - A kitchen was planned.

In November three Christmas parties were planned – Indoor, Outdoor and General.

Fences were erected.

1972 - Concrete banks and shelters were constructed.

1974 - The tool shed (gardeners’ shed) was added.

1975  - A special committee meeting was held to discuss the provision of liquor in the pavilion. It was carried by a unanimous decision vote.

1977- Application was made for a liquor licence. Also a new sewer line was installed.

A bar and store were added.

1979 - Three macrocarpa trees were removed in preparation for the No 2 green.

1981 - A new men’s toilet was built.

1983 - An addition to the kitchen took place.

1985 - A roller shed was built.

1988 - A new 8 metre wide pavilion was built.

1989 - The No1 green was resurfaced. Also a new store and plant shed were erected.

1992 - At a special meeting approval was given for the construction of the synthetic No 2 green.

1993 - A gala day was held to raise funds for the No 2 synthetic green and control room.

1998 - Discussions took place regarding the future development for three greens.

2000 - New kitchen and toilets were built.

2006 - Repairs were undertaken to the No 2 green synthetic mat. Later in the year a new Tiger Turf mat was installed.

Planning for a new kitchen took place.

In December the new Tiger Turf mat was officially opened.

2007 - The Club’s 50th Jubilee celebrations took place.

2009 - Initial discussions took place with the Christchurch City Council regarding the additional land for a third green and a project team was set up.

2010 - Fundraising for the new development was started in earnest with fortnightly Housie.

2011 - An application was submitted for the lease of additional land.

2012 - While the earthquake slowed the lease process, a claim was submitted for damage to the existing clubrooms.

2013 - An 11 year lease was signed with the Council (with two 11 year extensions) including additional land to the north of the clubrooms.

2015 - Plans for the extension to the clubrooms were developed and a contract for the build was signed in November.

2016 - The building extension was completed in time for opening day in November when it was officially opened.

2019 - The kitchen was upgraded with the installation of cooking equipment.

The Green Development Committee was established.

2020 - Green development project work was halted due to possible consequences as a result of Covid 19 regulations. After Covid 19 restrictions eased Housie recommenced on a weekly basis.

2021 - In June the members voted unanimously to proceed with a new artificial green on the northern side of the clubrooms.

2022 - The new green build commenced in August.

2023 - The new Northern Green was officially opened in February.
