CODE OF CONDUCT


INTRODUCTION 

Timaru Harlequins Sports Club is committed to promoting the well-being of all club members, staff, supporters, and visitors. In doing so this Code of Conduct has been developed to set out in clear terms the standards of behavior expected while on club premises or, at any other time club members are representing the club at sporting events or social functions.

The basis for the code reflects our Values:

At all times our expectation is to show respect and understanding in a manner that in no way diminishes the enjoyment, safety, and welfare of others.The Harlequins Sports Club sets a high standard of conduct and expects an environment where respect and responsibility are clearly understood and maintained. 


Our Commitments 

Timaru Harlequins Sports Club undertakes to develop and implement policies, programs and practices that encourage greater diversity and inclusion across all sports and advance the eradication of discrimination from sport, thereby playing a positive role in our sporting community.

Guiding Principles

  • Courtesy, respect, and cooperation to others always
  • Honesty in dealings with others, respect for their privacy
  • A club member engaging in behavior detrimental to another person/s is in breach of this Code of Conduct. The process on how the club deals with an event of this nature is outlined in the section below.
  • This Code also recognizes that from time to time issues of a personal nature may exist whereby external assistance and support from the various Government and private agencies may be appropriate. Contact numbers are shown below.
  • Game day management protocols as published by the South Canterbury Rugby Union and Netball South Canterbury are to be complied with. Coaches and Team Managers must acquaint themselves with these protocols, details of which are available from both administration offices.

Conduct and Behaviour

  • Discriminatory behaviour directed at an individual's cultural heritage, race, religion, gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, disability, or any other personal issue will not be tolerated.
  • Swearing or the use of any other offensive language must be confined to the team dressing room. Coaches when delivering their team talks should be mindful that not every player is motivated by this style.
  • Everyone should be encouraged and able to participate and enjoy sport without prejudice and in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • Alcohol / recreational drug abuse is not tolerated.
  • Alcohol consumption outside the clubrooms, eg in the carpark is prohibited, drinking in this area can result the club losing our alcohol license.
  • Drink and drive/ personal responsibility is strictly enforced.


Raising of a Concern or Complaint

When raising a complaint or concern the complainant can be assured that the matter will be dealt with in a timely manner. Strict confidentiality between the parties will be observed. 

  1. Allegations must be put in writing and addressed to the Executive Committee who will be investigating on behalf of the club. 
  2. Depending on the nature of the complaint the Executive Committee will determine if the matter requires further investigation. 
  3. The individual/s mentioned in the complaint will be notified that a complaint has been received setting out the allegations and invited to respond. 
  4. The Executive Committee will carry out an investigation to determine the substance of the allegations. 
  5. On completion of the investigation the Executive Committee will consider and determine the facts regarding the seriousness of the complaint. 
  6. The Executive Committee will then determine a suitable and appropriate penalty to be imposed. Penalties available are: 

1. Verbal warning

2. Letter of warning

3. Barred from entering the bar premises for a set period

4. In serious cases the penalty imposed may be dismissal from the club


Note (a): In the event that the complaint is considered to have been made in bad faith or is considered to be malicious or frivolous in nature, the Executive Committee may consider this to be a breach of this Code of Conduct requiring appropriate action to be taken.


On registering to a Harlequin Sports team or paying a club affiliation fee as a supporter or Mighty Quins Club member, you AUTOMATICALLY undertake to abide by this ‘Code of Conduct’ and any decision made by the Executive Committee requiring appropriate action to be taken.
