When the Hawke’s Bay Basketball Association was formed in Hastings in 1927, the Hastings High School Old Girls’ Basketball Club was one of the first to register.  Hastings High School Old Girls’ Netball Club is now the only netball club that is still active in Hawke’s Bay which can claim foundation membership of the original Hawke’s Bay Basketball Association and is also believed to be the oldest netball club in New Zealand.

In the 90 years since then, the achievements of the Club have been outstanding – not only in the playing of the game, but also in administration, umpiring and coaching.

As part of the Club’s 21st birthday celebrations, the Club registered names for the various Club teams and drew the names out of a hat.  The result was the A-team becoming known as Huias and the following teams being Robins, Tuis and Akinas.  As the Club grew, the new teams were named as Keas, Kiwis, Wekas, Wrens and Kotare.

Membership has fluctuated during the years with only three teams registered in 1966, and then falling to one in the early 1970s before expanding again to eight in 1977.  For the last few years team numbers have remained at 8 or 9 with 2020 at last fielding an Over 40's team and expanding our team numbers to 10.

The Club is fortunate to have a band of very loyal members who will lead the Club into the future and ensure its survival in the world of netball.
