HOBM Junior Rugby Club

“The Eagle Way”

“Pride in the jersey, developing friendships and loving the game”

HOBM Junior Rugby Club prides itself on being a welcoming, inclusive and safe environment where all of our junior players get a great rugby experience.  This is a club for everyone!

Everyone within the club environment contributes to the culture and the experience for our tamariki and rangatahi, parents, coaches, referees and members. To support a great experience, the club embraces the NZ Rugby values and has developed a set of behaviours of how we demonstrate these values at HOBM Junior Rugby Club - "The Eagle Way

NZ Rugby developed Te Ara Rangi Tira, the Rugby Way that connects individuals together with a shared set of values using four key Pou or pillars.

  • Te Pou Maioha – Be Welcoming: Rugby is a game for all regardless of our backgrounds, beliefs or identity.
  • Te Pou Hiranga – Be Your Best; We strive for excellence on and off the field, driven by a belief that rugby can improve peoples lives.
  • Te Pou Ihiihi – Be Passionate: Rugby is more than just a game, it builds communities and fosters a lifelong love of the game.
  • Te Pou Tika – Play Fair: We do what we say we’ll do, acting honesty and integrity at all times.

Using Te Ara Ranga Tira, The Eagle Way outlines how we at HOBM behave to ensure great experiences and supportive environments for our Players, our Parents & Supporters and our Coaches.

For Players

Being a great rugby player is not only about your skills on the field. Its also about how you represent the club and yourself on and off the pitch.

  • Have fun and enjoy the team environment.
  • Play hard but always play fair.
  • Exhibit sportsmanship that you would expect in return from your opposition.
  • Respect your teammates, your coach(es)/manager, match officials and opposition.
  • Play by the rules and respect all decisions by match officials.
  • Be responsible for your gear and be ready to train/play every week:

For Parents and Supporters

Parents play a critical role in supporting their kids love of sport and are important members of the HOBM Junior rugby community.

  • Junior Rugby is played for FUN.
  • Being a positive role model helps everyone enjoy the game – keep comments positive and encouraging on the sideline and at trainings.
  • Support and respect everyone on the field - both teams, the coaches and referees.
  • Coaches and referees are volunteers who love the game too – make sure to thank them at the end of the day. Anyone putting their hand up to volunteer deserves respect.
  • Coaches are there to support your child’s development and experience, get to know them and help them understand some things about your child.
  • You can support your child’s development by reinforcing the same messages as their coaches and giving them space to lead the coaching of the team.
  • As a club, we strive to live The Eagle Way. We do not tolerate offensive, insulting or abusive behavior. If you see any of this, please contact the Junior committee as soon as possible.
  • It is important for everyone’s experience that players and parents remain committed to the season:
    • Please communicate in a timely manner if your child/ren cannot make training or a game. This helps coaches with their planning.
    • Please remember the playing jersey remains the property of the HOBM Junior Club and must be returned at the end of the season.
