SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF PLAY
These Special Conditions of Play are to be read in conjunction with the General Conditions of Play. Play will commence at
9am unless otherwise advised. Up to three rounds per day will be played.
HOWICK CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS TWO WINS FORMAT
SEASON 2026/2027
For Men’s and Women’s Open and 1-5 Year Events. To apply where there are 6 or more entries. Where entries are 5 or less a round robin will apply.
QUALIFYING.
All players/teams will go into a blind draw. There will be 3 rounds and players/teams who win two or three games will qualify for post section. If the third game has no bearing on the outcome of qualification the players or skips can agree not to play.
POST SECTION.
All qualifiers will go into a blind draw. The draw will be populated from the bottom upwards ensuring that any bye is at the top
of the draw. Byes will be dispensed within the first round. All games will be a straight knockout
TIES.
In qualifying or post section. If after the specified number of ends, or the time limit has expired, whichever occurs first,
the scores are equal, an extra end or ends will be played to determine a winner.
BYES.
In qualifying, should there not be an even number of players a bye will constitute a win.
TIME LIMIT.
If the Jack has been delivered before the time limit is up the end will continue
SINGLES.
Four bowls per player each end. Games will be first to 21 points or 2 ½ hours’ time limit (whichever comes first) in qualifying and post section until the final. The final will have no time limit. Players may visit the head after their third bowl. On day one of the men’s events there will be four rounds with some players playing three games and marking one. Start time to be 8.30 am. Because of the smaller number of entries for women’s events, they can usually arrange non-playing markers and play three rounds on day one.The mat is to be carried in singles events.
PAIRS.
Three bowls per player each end. Games will be 18 ends or a 2 ½ hours’ time limit (whichever comes first) in qualifying and post section until the final. The final will have no time limit. Skips may visit the head after their second bowl.
TRIPLES.
Two bowls per player each end. Games will be 18 ends or a 2 ½ hours’ time limit (whichever comes first) in qualifying and post section until the final. The final will have no time limit. Skips may visit the head after their first bowl.
FOURS.
Two bowls per player each end. Games will be 15 ends or a 2 ½ hours’ time limit (whichever comes first) in qualifying and post section until the final. The final will have no time limit. Skips may visit the head after their first bowl. The 1-5 year fours event will be any combination of men and women.
2-4-2 MIXED PAIRS.
Four bowls per player each end with two bowls played alternatively by the first two players of each team. This is to be followed by four bowls played alternatively by the other two players and then the remaining two bowls played alternatively by the first players. At the start of the next end and on each subsequent end each team’s playing order is reversed. Games will be 14 ends or 2 ½ hours’ time limit (whichever comes first) in qualifying and post section until the final. The final will have no time limit. Skips may visit the head after their first bowl.
ROUND ROBIN FORMAT
Where there are only 4 or 5 entries a round robin format will be played. If one player or team wins all three games, they will be the winner. If two or three teams have the same number of wins there will be a knockout game or games to determine a winner. Where there are two or three entries the Match Committee will
make a decision as to whether the competition should proceed and if so determine the format. All games will have a 2 ½ hours’ time limit.
OTHER COMPETITIONS
VETERAN SINGLES.
Entrants must have attained their 70th birthday before commencement of the competition. The TWO WINS FORMAT used for Club Championship
singles will apply with the following differences:-
The winner will be the first to 18 points with a time limit in qualifying of 2 hours and in post section of 2 ½ hours. The final will have no time limit.
There will be three rounds on day one with players playing two games and marking one. Qualifying will carry over to day two after which a draw of qualifiers will be made for post section
VETERAN PAIRS.
Entrants must have attained their 70th birthday before commencement of the competition. The TWO WINS FORMAT used for Club Championship pairs will apply with the following differences:- Games will be 12 ends or a two hour time limit. For qualifying, three games will be played on day one after which a
draw of qualifiers will be made for post section
HANDICAP SINGLES.
The TWO WINS FORMAT used for Club Championship singles will apply, except that the games will be 18 ends or a 2 hour time limit. The handicap differential will be calculated and go on the score board as the starting points for the higher handicapper.
HANDICAP PAIRS.
The TWO WINS FORMAT as used for Club Championship pairs will apply, with the following differences. This is a single entry event. Teams are drawn. Lower handicap players go in one hat and the higher handicap players go in another hat and one name is drawn from each hat to make up a team. The handicaps of each team member are added together to get the team handicap. The handicap differential between the two teams playing each other is calculated and goes on the score board for the starting points for the higher handicap team. Games will be 15 ends with a 2 ½ hour time limit in qualifying and post section.
