Howick Hornets AFL bringing Australian Rules Football from the Hornets Nest

The Howick Hornets AFL club was established in 2012 as an AFL club to represent the South Eastern Suburbs. Originally playing as the Pakuranga Panthers, in their maiden year the team won the 2nd Division premiership . The following year the AAFL disestablished the 2nd Division joining all clubs into the 1st Division.

The AFL club has started an exciting new chapter affiliating ourselves with the Howick Hornets from 2017 onwards. Howick Hornets continue to play competitive football in the 1st Division and our clubs goal is to achieve their first Premiership in the next 5 years. In a ten week season running from early-September to mid-November, games are played each weekend on a home and away basis from Paparoa Park.

Off the field the club is involved within the local community aiming to bring AFL to the area. They are involved in a few local schools with coaching youth teams and providing lessons during sports days, aiming to be involved with all schools within the local area providing our youth players an avenue into representing Auckland and New Zealand AFL.

Home games are keenly supported with a good crowd of spectators, with growing numbers of players, many of whom have never previously played AFL competitively, enjoying the sport and hospitality of the Hornets Nest.
