Coaches
Coaches will be made available to help riders develop their skills and provide advice
Hurunui BMX Club is fortunate to have Ben Polden back this season as our head coach along with James. Ben was named the BMX South Island Coach of the year for 2024, which is a fantastic achievement for Ben!
Track Safety
Please make sure you ride around the track the correct way
When you are trying BMX for the first time take it easy to get comfortable with the style of your bike
Don't stop on the track if there are other riders unless you have been asked by your coach
Children need a adult caregiver present at the track while riding
Please do not ride on the track when wet as this makes it dangerous for others when the ruts dry
What BMX Riders Wear
Helmet- compulsory for all riders. Standard bike helmets are fine, but full face helmets are highly recommended. Motocross helmets can be worn, but they heavier so something to be aware of
Long Sleeve Top- this season the club will be providing all riders with tops. These are important so you don't graze your elbows
Long Pants- these are important so you don't graze your knees
Long Socks- long socks are best as you can graze your ankles on pedals or the ground easily. These are not a must but highly recommended
Covered Shoes are a must
Gloves (garden or woolen are acceptable)
Body Armor- is great for decreasing pain if/when you fall off. It is not a must, but if you have it we highly recommend wearing it
Elbow and Knee Pads- This is very similar to body armor but more important. Your arms and legs will most likely hit the ground before your body
