The sport of lawn bowls was first played regularly in Feilding with the
establishment in 1895 of the Feilding Lawn Bowling Club in South Street
backing on to the saleyards. In 1928 a breakway group formed the Oroua
Lawn Bowling Club in Derby Street. The Feilding Bowling Club moved to
Council land at Johnston Park off Drake Street in 1978. In 2005 Johnston
Park Bowls was formed from the merger of Feilding and Oroua Bowling Clubs.
The club now has two greens, one turf and one artifical. The artificial green
was installed in June 2018 enabling members and vistors to play bowls all
year at the club. The premises are also used by four other clubs and hired
out for one off events.
