Year 5/6 Netball

Co-ordinator: Eliza Armstrong, Maria Adams

Kaikoura Netball Centre run the Netball New Zealand futureFERNS Programme.  This is a 10 week programme with an emphasis on fun and participation.  Both boys and girls encouraged to play.

Year 5 and 6 play the modified 6 x 6 version of netball.  The 6 v 6 game is fast and provides players with lots of touches on the ball to enhance skill development and enjoyment. With only three positions on court it means the game is less complicated for children and easier for coaches to ensure the players learn the skills relevant to all and to provide them with equal opportunities.

Keen to play?  Contact your school, or if you don’t have a schoolteam we can join you up with one of the existing teams.

Tournaments:

We are hope to enter in three Hurunui Future Ferns tournaments.

Teams play seven minute games in a round robin format.

Subs are $40 and are to be paid directly to your school.

If you have any questions, please contact the Yr 5/6 Coordinator, Eliza oe Maria: via Kaikoura Netball Centre email: [email protected]

Parents Code of Behaviour

If children are interested, encourage and support them to play.

If you disagree with an official, raise the issue via appropriate channels rather than question the official's judgment and honesty in public.

Recognise and value the importance of coaches and other volunteers, who give their time and resources to provide Netball. they deserve support.

Teach children that effort is as important as victory, so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment.

Encourage children to play to the rules and respect umpires' decisions.

Support the removal of verbal and physical abuse from the game.

Lead by example

Children learn by taking risks and making mistakes, encourage and support this.

Applaud good play by players on both teams.

Remember children are involved in Netball for their enjoyment, not yours.

Avoid forcing children to play if reluctant.
