KAIPARA BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION

Ray Huriwaka Scholarship

It is with great honour and excitement that we present the Ray Huriwaka Scholarship.

After consultation with Renae Huriwaka we wanted to find a way to honour our friend and Kaipara Basketball OG Hudz Huriwaka. It only seems right to honour a man who always put kids first, by creating a scholarship that helps our kids reach greater heights.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide up and coming committed basketball players financial assistance towards age group representative basketball. Cost is a barrier in all sports and basketball is no exception, this award is aimed at alleviating financial pressure for two Kaipara players and their families for the representative year (one boy and one girl). Typical costs associated with a representative include fees for regional and national tournaments, accommodation, travel for tournaments, shoes and other gear required for playing.

It is important to note that this award is for players that have a desire to play representative basketball. More details are provided below under Eligibility.

Eligibility is based on the applicant satisfying all of the following criteria:

• Be a New Zealand citizen.

• Be eligible to play in the age groups ranging from Under 14’s to Under 20’s within the same calendar year as the scholarship is awarded.

• Play for Kaipara Basketball in a tribal wars team and/or play in the Kaipara Basketball Secondary Schools competition.

• Previous experience playing for Northland and/or a desire to play for Northland this calendar year.

• A brief coaches report from someone who has coached the player with comments under the follow subheadings.
