Croquet Court Etiquette

Spectator Etiquette

Spectators should refrain from:

  • Audible comments

  • Offering advice

  • Calling attention to any error

  • Moving into line-of-play

Players

  • Can receive advice from a playing partner only (time must not be wasted on prolonged discussion)

  • Should play strokes with reasonable dispatch

  • Should not stand or move in such a way as to distract the adversary

  • Should ensure all balls are correctly placed if hit off the court

  • At the end of play, balls and clips should be made ready for a following game

  • Call the umpire to watch strokes, or the position of balls after a ball has been struck, when there is any doubt about the outcome of a stroke

  • May not query an adversary’s stroke but may call an umpire to watch subsequent strokes and must inform the adversary of his/her intention to do so. The adversary has no justification for taking offence in this eventuality

  • Must inform the adversary at any time of the state of the game on request as each player may need to act as umpire.
