Our History
Our Club, established in 1975, emerged from the union of two longstanding clubs: Celtic Rugby League from Longburn Freezing Works and Kia Ora Rugby League from Palmerston North. As a whānau-oriented grassroots club, we remain committed to fostering strong connections within our community.
Our unwavering passion lies in utilising rugby league as a platform to provide opportunities, enabling players to realise their fullest potential.
Relationship with Highbury Whānau Centre (HWC)
Our club’s relationship with HWC was forged from the inception of the Junior Youth Touch Module in 1996. HWC, with over 20 years of existence, specialises in youth and community development. Their services encompass Alternative Education, Community Social Services, School Holiday and After School Programs, as well as sports like Touch Football, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Basketball.
The synergy between our club and HWC naturally led to collaboration, utilising Rugby League as a platform to nurture and develop school-aged players. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate and deeply appreciative of the enduring relationship we share with HWC.
