Limehills Netball Club’s Code of Conduct

All registered members of the Limehills Netball Club are required to read, accept and adhere to the following agreement:-

PLAYERS

As a representative of a Limehills Netball team I must agree to the following:

  • I will attend all practices and games on time. If I cannot make a practice or game or I will be late, I will inform my manager or coach at least 24 hours before the practice or game is scheduled to begin.
  • I will endeavour to pay my fees on time. If this becomes an issue my parent or legal guardian will talk to the Netball President/Secretary.
  • I will always play by the rules of the game.
  • I will always respect sporting officials. If I disagree with a decision I will inform the captain, coach or manager during a break or after the competition.
  • I will aim to always control my temper. I understand that the verbal abuse of officials or other players or deliberately distracting and provoking an opponent is not acceptable or permitted behaviour in any sport. This includes, but is not limited to moaning, swearing, spitting or any action that brings either me or Limehills Netball Club into disrepute.
  • I will work hard for myself and for my team.
  • I will be a 'good sport' and applaud all good plays whether they are made by my team or the opposition.
  • I will treat all players in my team and sport as I would like to be treated. Bullying or taking unfair advantage of another competitor will not take place in my team.
  • I will co-operate with my coach, manager, team mates and opponents.
  • I will display modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat.
  • I will participate for my own benefit and enjoyment, not to please parents and coaches.
  • I will respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their ability, gender, cultural background or religion.
  • I will thank the opposition and officials at the end of the game.
  • I will keep my Limehills Netball Club uniform in a clean and tidy condition and worn correctly. (Dark blue or black knickers please. No jewellery is to be worn. Nails are to be kept short).
  • I understand that no alcohol, drugs or smoking is permitted while representing Limehills Netball Club and in club uniform.

Deliberate/repeated failure to abide by any of the above conditions will lead to a player being stood down from the Netball team. Should this happen Club fees will not be refunded.

PARENTS AND SPECTATORS

As a parent/guardian and spectator of netball or netball related activities held by or under the auspices of Netball New Zealand, the Central Southland Netball Centre and Limehills Netball Club you are encouraged to meet the following requirements in regard to your conduct during any such activity or event:

  • Support the removal of verbal and physical abuse from the game.
  • If you disagree with an official, raise the issue via appropriate channels rather than question the official's judgement and honesty in public.
  • Teach players that effort is as important as victory, so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment.
  • Players learn by taking risks and making mistakes. Encourage and support this.
  • Remember players are involved in netball for their enjoyment, not yours.
  • Recognise and value the importance of coaches and other volunteers who give their time and resources to provide netball - they deserve your support.
  • Applaud good play by players on both teams.
  • Encourage players to play to the rules of the game and respect umpires' decisions.

COACHES AND MANAGERS

As a coach/manager appointed by a school, club or Netball Centre you must meet the following requirements in regard to your conduct as a coach/manager and in any role you hold within Netball New Zealand, the Central Southland Netball Centre, or Limehills Netball Club:

  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every human being. Within the context of the activity, treat everyone equally regardless of sex, ethnicity, race, religion, or sexual orientation. Always assume that there are lesbian, gay and bisexual people in teams and among the coaching and support staff, even if they have chosen not to identify themselves. Make it clear that you will not tolerate anti-gay prejudice or any prejudice based on sexual orientation.
  • Ensure the players time spent with you is a positive experience. All players are deserving of equal attention and opportunities.
  • Treat each player as an individual. Respect the talent, developmental stage and goals of each individual player.  Help each player reach their full potential.
  • Be fair, considerate and honest with players.
  • Be professional in, and accept responsibility for, your actions. Language, manner, preparation and presentation should reflect high standards. Display control, respect, dignity and professionalism to all involved with the sport - this includes opponents, coaches, officials, administrators, the media, parents and spectators. Encourage your players to demonstrate the same qualities.
  • Make a commitment to providing a quality service to your players. Maintain or improve your current coaching accreditation. Seek continual improvement through performance appraisal and ongoing coach/manager education. Provide a training program which is planned and sequential. Maintain appropriate records.
  • Operate within the rules and spirit of your sport.
  • Any physical contact with players should be appropriate to the situation and necessary for the player's skill development.
  • Avoid unaccompanied and unobserved activities with persons under 18 years of age, wherever possible.
  • Refrain from any form of personal abuse. This includes verbal, physical and emotional abuse. Be alert to any forms of abuse directed towards your players from other sources whilst they are in your care.
  • Refrain from any form of sexual harassment towards your players.
  • Show concern and caution towards sick and injured players. Provide a modified training programme where appropriate. Allow further participation in training and competition only when appropriate. Seek medical advice when required. Maintain the same interest and support towards sick and injured players
  • Provide a safe environment for training at facilities and in competition. Ensure equipment and facilities meet safety standards. Equipment, rules and the environment need to be appropriate for the age and ability of the player
  • Be a positive role model for netball and players
