What is Mini Marist? Mini Marist is designed for children aged 4–6 years, with or without previous football experience. The programme helps children discover the game, develop basic movement skills, and enjoy positive football experiences in a fun, safe, and supportive environment.
When do we train/play? Mini Marist starts on the first Friday of Term 2.
4:45pm – 5:45pm | Behind the Marist Clubrooms, 19 Pascal Street, Palmerston North
The programme outline
4:30pm – Muster and assignment of grid groups at the Marist Clubrooms
4:45pm – 5:30pm – Training in grids
5:45pm – Regroup for certificates and club notices
What do the children require?
Shin pads (mandatory)
Football boots (recommended, sneakers are fine)
Club shirts are provided each Friday for team identification
Any shorts and socks may be worn, however socks must cover shin pads
Who trains the kids? Sessions are led by club volunteers or friends of the club, overseen by the Mini Marist Coordinator from Palmerston North Marist Junior Football Club. Parents are encouraged to support their child and assist coaches where possible.
How does it work? Children are divided into teams of 8–10 players. Boys and girls are separated to encourage more girls to play and ensure more ball touches each session. Depending on numbers, there will be 3 or 4 periods of 8 minutes in grids. Children rotate through different squares, each led by a Game Leader, and complete a different football activity in each grid. After grid activities, children play a 4 vs 4 game of football.
