Marsden Students Shine with Holiday Sporting Successes

Marsden athletes have been busy over the Term 2 holidays with a string of outstanding achievements across a range of sports, showcasing not only their talent and dedication but also their strong community spirit.

The holidays began with an inspiring performance from Year 13 student Jessica, who completed the Wellington Marathon in an impressive time of 3 hours and 48 minutes. In addition to this personal accomplishment, Jessica raised $634 for the Heart Foundation, demonstrating her commitment to making a positive difference beyond the finish line. Her determination and generosity make her a true role model for the Marsden community.

Hockey

In hockey, Yasmin, Bay, and Jayna proudly represented Wellington at the U18 Women’s National Tournament held in North Harbour. The trio competed against some of the country’s strongest young players, and their selection and performance are testament to their hard work and skill.

Basketball

Basketball also saw outstanding Marsden representation, with Ani, Kiara, Tapu, and Elyse playing for Wellington at the U16 National Tournament. The team delivered a remarkable performance, finishing in second place after a hard-fought final against Canterbury that went into overtime. Marsden was especially proud to have the most players from any one school included in the squad, reflecting the strength of its basketball programme. Special thanks go to parent Pip Matatia for coaching the team and supporting the athletes throughout the tournament.

Tennis

Meanwhile, in tennis, Year 10 student Sahana enjoyed an exceptional holiday season. She claimed the U16 Tier 2 Girls’ Singles title in Auckland, defeating tough semifinal and final opponents in straight sets. Sahana also won the Tier 3 U14 Girls’ Singles title in Christchurch. Both events featured strong national fields, making her double victory a remarkable achievement.

These successes highlight the dedication, resilience, and passion of Marsden’s young athletes, all of whom exemplify the school motto Ad Summa - to the highest.

Marsden is proud of all these students and looks forward to seeing them continue to excel both on and off the field.
