A Little About Our Club....

Rallies are run by the Rally Co-ordinator with experienced instructors catering for a wide range of riders, from beginners through to a competitive level.  Skills taught at Pony Club include GAMES, SHOWJUMPING, DRESSAGE, HORSEMASTERSHIP and EVENTING.  We also like to encouraged our riders to work towards their Pony Club certificates.

Pony Club, like any other youth movement, requires adults to organise and administer its activities. Not all adults need to be ‘horsey’. There are ways in which the least horsey parent can be of great assistance – carpentry, fundraising, secretarial, office bearer, putting out equipment, catering, painting, etc.  Please do not hesitate to offer your services, and its also fun!If you have any queries or issues please do not hesitate to contact any committee member.  For queries or issues during pony club rallies please contact the Head Coach in the first instance. For any administration queries or issues please contact the Secretary in the first instance.

Pony Club Competitive Team Guidlines

If members wish to be considered for Mosgiel Pony Club or Otago Southland Area teams, they need to meet the rally requirements; generally 5 rallies in the previous 12 months, with at least 3 on the mount on which they intend to compete. Riders wishing to compete for teams on more than one mount need to ensure they rotate mounts at pony club to ensure all meet this requirement.

EVENTS

As well as Pony Club rallies, Mosgiel Pony Club run some events for our members enjoyment and as fundraising opportunities.  All members are required to help to make them successful.

Events by club or district include: Dates may not be confirmed but as a guide;

  • Mosgiel Pony Club Minishow - Oct
  • Mosgiel Pony Club Gymkhana - Dec
  • Taieri District One Day Horse Trial,  Middlemarch - Nov
  • Taieri District HT, Wingatui -  Jan
  • Taieri District Secondary Schools  Competition – Mar

FUNDRAISING

As with most clubs, we are constantly looking for ways to raise money.  This money is spent on equipment, courses for riders & coaches, uniforms, entry fees, etc.  All members benefit through improved facilities and reduced costs.

MEETINGS

Generally held on the 3rd Monday of every month at the Wingatui racecourse meeting room. Email notices about these are sent to all members. All Club members are welcome.

New Zealand Pony Club Association Website

As part of a national organisation many of the rules and regulations we have at pony club come from a national level. New Zealand Pony Clubs Association has an excellent website for information; it is very user friendly and informative.

You will find a Code of Conduct document for the Welfare of the Horse and documents for Code of Conduct of Administrators, Officials, Coaches, Riders, Parents and Spectators - well worth a read.

Pony Club has a “Yellow Card” process in place for abuse, inappropriate behaviours etc. Please see NZPCA website and be clear of this process.Pony Club is like anything else, you get out what you put in.

Pony Club provides great opportunities for riders to gain skills and improve their riding. A lot of valuable skills are also learnt in assisting in organizing pony club rallies and associated events. We hope you find this information helpful. Please feel free to contact any committee members for further information.

Regards,

Mosgiel Pony Club Committee
