Our Story
Back in 2020, Simone – a local mum in her early thirties decided it was finally time to properly give dirtbike riding a go - she had dabbled a little on dirtbikes years before but had never given motocross a go. She showed up to fun day events around Nelson/Tasman with her partner and quickly noticed something – the women’s line was looking pretty empty. Wanting to change that, she dreamed of creating a space where women could connect, ride together, and grow their confidence without worrying about what bike they had or how they looked. Just three months after starting out herself, MX Ladies was born.
What started as a small crew in the Top of the South quickly grew into something bigger than expected. They had club hoodies made, and before long women from outside the region were asking how they could get one – and how they could be part of it too. That’s when MX Ladies - Top of the South became MX Ladies NZ. Word spread, and soon riders from all across the country were joining in, excited to be part of a group where fun, encouragement, and friendship come first
Not long after, she teamed up with Stacey – a down-to-earth experienced rider and fellow mum from Marlborough. With the same passion for supporting women on dirtbikes, the pair joined forces to host fun day events designed for every level of rider.
In 2023, MX Ladies NZ in conjuction with Marlborough Motorcycle Club - proudly hosted New Zealand’s first ever Ladies-Only Motocross Champs. The response was incredible – more than 70 female riders lined up, with three travelling down from the North Island and others making the journey from as far south as Bluff. The turnout showed just how strong the women’s motocross community had become, and it was proof that MX Ladies NZ was making an impact.
Today, MX Ladies NZ is more than just a facebook group – it’s a community. A place where women of all ages and abilities can ask questions they would otherwise feel 'silly' asking, catch up and ride together, laugh together, and prove that riding dirtbikes is for anyone (any age) brave enough to give it a go.
