One of our responsibilities to members of the club is to ensure we have a fire evacuation procedure approved by FENZ (Fire and Emergency Services New Zealand. Please take a minute to make sure you understand our procedure and can help the duty warden if required.

CLUB HIRERS

The hirer of the hall becomes (or appoints) the CHIEF WARDEN. The hirer of the hall must appoint at least two DUTY WARDENS. All appointed WARDENS shall be familiar with the evacuation procedure and the hire agreement shall include a signed verification that WARDENS understand and agree to comply with the Fire Emergency Procedure


FIRE EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

ACTIONS TO TAKE IF YOU DISCOVER A FIRE

 Warn occupants in the immediate area.

 Sound the Fire Alarm by activating the nearest manual call point.

 Move to a safe place away from the noise of the alarm and make a 111 call to Fire and Emergency NZ advising of a fire at Tamarahi Reserve, 41 Stembridge Road, Ngongotaha. Pass on any known information about the fire e.g. location and size.

 Evacuate the building to the place of safety outside – grass area beside main car park entrance.

 Confirm to the Chief Warden that a 111 call has been made.


DUTY WARDEN DUTIES

On arrival to the club rooms, the duty wardens shall advise visitors about what they need to do in a fire emergency (this shall include raising the alarm, evacuating the building, the location of the place(s) of safety and how the evacuation of people who require assistance, including persons with restricted mobility, will be managed.


If alerted to a fire: Sound the Fire Alarm (if not already sounding) by activating a manual call point.

 Direct all upper floor occupants to evacuate the building to the place of safety outside – grass area beside main car park entrance.

 Check all upper floor areas (including kitchen). Turn off electrical appliances if it is safe to do so.

 Proceed to the ground floor and check all ground floor areas (including changing rooms) to ensure all occupants have evacuated.

 Help any occupants who may require assistance evacuating, to get to the place of safety outside.

 Report to the Chief Warden at the main entrance to confirm that all occupants have evacuated and are accounted for.

 Proceed to the place of safety outside – grass area beside main car park entrance.


Firefighting should only be attempted if:

 You have been trained in the use of the firefighting equipment.

 The fire is small enough to contain.

 You are not putting yourself or anyone else at risk.
