Orienteering at NGHS

Our school works closely with the Hawkes' Bay Orienteering Club and participation at their events is where team members gain skills and fitness.  

Term 1 - Hawkes Bay Orienteering Club Summer Series 

This is ideal for all levels - competitive and non-competitive. The HB Orienteering Club run short courses every Wednesday evening in Term 1 at various urban locations.  Coaching is available at these events.  Students will need their own transport. 

Term 2 & 3 - Hawke's Bay Orienteering Club Winter Events

During the winter students are encouraged to join the HB Orienteering Club and participate in their  winter events including the Orienteerer of the Year Competition. This is good training for the North Island and National School events. Events are held every second Sunday.

Transportation to events: 

Students will need their own transport to the Summer Series and the Winter Club events.  School events will utilise the NGHS school vans.

Fees:

Summer Series $50 approx  : Term 1 only. This includes all Summer Series entry fee's, HB Orienteering Club membership and hireage of SI cards.

Orienteering Fee's $130 : This includes all HB Orienteering Club events, HB Orienteering Club membership and hireage of SI cards.

If selected for the NGHS teams to travel to the North Island Secondary School Champs and NZ Secondary School Champs you can expect tournament fees between $150-$600 depending on our success with funding.

Gear:

It is recommended the students have trail running shoes. Orienteering singlets will be provided to students attending school events.
