Welcome to the 6-a-side Summer League at Northern United: Bigger, Better, and More Exciting Than Ever!

We are thrilled to announce that Northern United is once again hosting its highly anticipated 6-a-side Summer League, now in its second year! After the resounding success of last year's league, we have expanded the capacity to an impressive five fields, allowing even more teams to participate in the football extravaganza.

This year, we are taking the Summer League to new heights by introducing several exciting changes to cater to all ages and interests. To ensure a fair and engaging experience, we will be splitting the junior teams into age groups and hosting matches over two unforgettable nights of football. Tuesdays will see the thrilling clash of Mens & Womens and Junior teams, while Thursdays will witness the fierce competition among the Mixed, and Junior teams.

But that's not all – we're introducing a brand-new addition to the Summer League this year! For the first time ever, we are delighted to bring you Walking Football, a fantastic opportunity for players 55+ to showcase their skills while having a blast on the field. This slower-paced version of the game encourages inclusivity and allows everyone to join in the fun, regardless of their physical abilities.

Not only have we made changes to the games themselves, but we've also found a stunning new location for the tournament – Korikori Park! The pristine fields and top-notch facilities at this venue will undoubtedly enhance the overall experience for players and spectators alike.

Northern United's 6-a-side Summer League has always been about fostering camaraderie, promoting sportsmanship, and celebrating the beautiful game of football. With our increased capacity, age-specific divisions, and the introduction of Walking Football, we are confident that this year's edition will be the best one yet.

Junior League (9 – 16 Years)  

  • The league is open to children aged 9 to 16 years.  
  • Age group leagues are
    • 9th Grade, 10th Grade, U10 Girls, 11th Grade, 12th Grade and U12 Girls on a Tuesday night
    • U14 Mixed, U14 Girls, U16 Mixed and U16 Girls on a Thursday night
  • Each age group league will have Group A - Competitive and Group B - Social for you to select what suits your teams skills and abilities
  • Teams can be either Mixed or Girls. (mixed can be all boys but allows for mixed gender teams to compete)
  • Medals provided to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each competative league. Social is based on festival with no placements
  • Individual registrations are available, however there are no guarantees of placement - no charge until you are placed into a team

Senior Teams (15+)

  • The league will be split into Social and Competitive 
  • Teams can be either
    • Mens / Womens Teams on a Tuesday night
    • Mixed Teams on a Thursday night
  • Mixed teams must have at least one person of each gender on the field at any given time
  • 14 weeks of competition (+ 1 week reserved either side of Christmas for any postponements) 
  • There will be a prize for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each league
  • Individual registrations are available, however there are no guarantees of placement - no charge until you are placed into a team

Walking Football (55+)

  • The league is open to to anyone over the age of 55 or with a injury / disability preventing them from playing saturday football
  • The league will be for 7 weeks for Term 4 (2023) and 7 weeks in Term 1 (2024). You only sign up for a term each time
  • Individual registrations will mean you will be placed in a team before the season starts. If you are registering with a friend, please ensure you add their name into the notes field and we will endeavour to place you in the same team
  • Team Registrations will mean you find the players and register as a team

All games will be played at Korikori Park, Rototuna

Details 

  • Team Manager’s enter a team and are also responsible for finding players to make up their team (excluding Walking Football)
  • Subject to weather,  the league runs Tuesday & Thursday evenings 4pm-8pm approx. Junior team kick off will be from 4-5.30pm followed by Senior teams from 5:30pm until 8:15pm
  • The Senior Mens Teams competition will run for 14 weeks starting Tuesday 24th October 2023 through to Tuesday 5th March 2024
  • The Senior Mixed Teams competition will run for 14 weeks starting Thursday 26th October 2023 through to Tuesday 7th March 2024
  • The Junior Teams competitions will run in Term 1 (2024)
    • 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th Grade Boys and U10 & U12 Girls - Tuesday 16th January 2024 through to 5th March 2024
    • U14 Mixed, U14 Girls, U16 Mixed and U16 Girls - Thursday 18th January 2024 through to 14th January 2024
  • Games will comprise two 20-minute halves 
  • Six players are on the field including the Goalkeeper (maximum of ten players per team per night) 
  • Referees will be supplied for all games 
  • All leagues are subject to sufficient team entries

Cost 

  • Senior Team Price - $500 per team
  • Junior Team Price - $150 per team per team per term (7 weeks per term) 
  • Walking Football - $15 per person or $150 for the team per term (7 weeks per term)
