Match Day preview

Auckland United vs Southern United

12:00PM / Oct 29 / Keith Hay Park 1

With 3 teams sitting on 12 points at the top of the women’s Championship, this matchup between 1st and 2nd will be crucial in the race for the two grand final spots. Both teams are on great winning runs but after this weekend one or both of their streaks will come to an end. Will Southern take the top spot from the NRFL winners? Or can United carry on their stay at the top?

Player to watch:

Amy Hislop:

Hislop is one of the best goalscorers in the league with 3 goals so far this season. She was also a huge contributor during Southern United’s win last week despite not being on the scoresheet. She was a constant threat delivering the cross that would lead to the winning goal and proved dangerous throughout the game.

Auckland City and United will play this weekend in a top 4 showdown, with United sitting in 4th and City in 1st. Auckland City are threatening to run away at the top of the table, currently 4 points clear, meanwhile United will be desperate to become the first side to take points off ACFC to give them the best chance of reaching the grand final.

Player to watch:

Howieson is a well-known figure in National League football so it’s no surprise that he finds himself as a player to watch after a great display against Eastern Suburbs last weekend, racking up both assists in his side’s 2-1 win. Christchurch United vs Napier City Rovers

03:00PM / Oct 29 / United Sports Centre T1

Southern League Champions face Central League side Napier City Rovers in what will be an interesting clash. Currently the top scorer in the Championship, Corfe will be looking to add to his tally after scoring the crucial goal that clinched a win over Wellington Phoenix Reserves last week.
