World Netball Launches Rules of Netball 2024 Edition & Educational Resources

World Netball (WN) has today launched the Rules of Netball 2024 Edition, along with free educational rules resources, with the new rules set to come into play for all international matches from the 1st of January 2024.

This comes after the WN Rules Advisory Panel (RAP) completed an extensive 12-month Rules Review process, which ended at Congress 2023 in Cape Town with the Members approving the rules changes.

The rules change focuses specifically on player safety and game management along with clarification and streamlining of existing rules such as contact and advantage. The layout of the Rules has also been updated to simplify and encourage use by all of the Netball Family, not just umpires.

The changes will ensure that the spectacle of netball is maintained while player welfare is protected by putting a greater onus on self-regulation.

You will notice changes to the substitution rule, allowing teams to make tactical changes immediately after a goal is scored, and the short pass rule too, whilst toss-ups will be removed from the game.

You can view the new rules book here.

To ensure that all members of the Netball Family are educated on the new rules of netball, WN, in collaboration with NetFit, has created educational resources, including PDFs and videos, detailing these changes. You can view all the educational resources for free on WN’s website, here.

While the rules will come into effect from the 1st of January 2024 for all international competitions, Member countries may plan their domestic competition implementation date up to the 1st of September 2024.

The Rules of Netball App will be updated when the new rules come into play from the 1st January 2024, you can download the app now from the Apple and Google Play stores.

The Technical Officials Manual has also been updated, and this can be found on the WN website, here.
