The purpose of the Gear Inspection is to ensure that the horse is fit to be ridden, the saddlery and equipment are safe, correctly fitted, and conforms to competition Rules. The Gear Inspection also ensures that the rider is in the correct uniform, and that the combination of rider and horse are well presented.

At OTPC we mark attendance & turnout at rallies looking for the following:

Rider:
1.  Correct clean uniform (includes hat cover)
2.  NZPCA Helmet tag (Blue up until 31 July 2017 - Red from 1 August 2017)
3.  No jewellery or taped
4.  Hair tied &/or hairnet
5.  Cleaned riding boots

Horse:
1.  Hooves oiled
2.  Well groomed (no surface dirt)
3.  Main & tail brushed
4.  Clean eyes, nose
5.  Horse in good body condition

Gear:
1.  Clean bit & correctly fitted
2.  Clean & soft gear
3.  Clean saddle blanket
4.  Girth tightened
5.  Stitching safe - reins, girth & stirrup leathers
