Women’s rugby increased in popularity in New Zealand during the 1980s. In 1989 a women’s New Zealand XV was selected for the first time.

Today women’s rugby is flourishing. Expert coaching and professional playing opportunities has seen the game take off. Our Very own women’s team the Petone ponies are a talented, committed and a very social bunch. If you are keen to get involved in women’s rugby get in touch!

We encourage girls of all ages to get involved in our national game. Our junior club has great female numbers and offers two handed touch, tackle and Rippa Rugby options. Petone Rugby Football Club has produced 3 Black ferns.
