Stuart "Milky" Thompson is taking another step forward in his coaching journey as he takes the reins of the Palm City Motor Inn Port Hill United Premiers for 2022.
After leading the Reserves squad through a strong season in 2021, he'll look to translate that success to the Prems. We had a chat to Milky about his football history, his goals for the season, and his favourite club and footballing moments:
Hi, if you don't know me my name is Stuart Thompson (Milky). I've been playing and coaching for over 15 years now. Coaching juniors to high schools, U15's, FTC, senior Women's & senior Mens. In 2022 I will be looking to continue with senior coaching moving from Port Hill reserves to take the Palm City Port Hill United Premiers.
My goal for the upcoming season is to bring the spirit back to not only the team but the club. We have a lot of players/members coming and going, but the ones that stick around are there for a reason, and that reason is because Port Hill is a family. I want to continue that feel whilst looking at what the future is for Port Hill as a club. Personally I will be focusing on honing my coaching skills by continuing to attend senior coaching courses.
My favorite club is Liverpool and Player is Stevie G! Absolute work horse. Not the most skillful, but game smart, and all rounder! My favorite football history moment would be when Liverpool came back from 3-0 down to beat Barcelona 4-3 in the champions league semi finals. And ultimately going on to win the final.
Pre season training will start on Monday 31st of Jan. We will be looking for new talent so if you want to come down you're more than welcome. See you all soon!
In another major coup for the team, club stalwart Gary Hambleton will be filling the role of team manager in 2022. Gary brings decades of experience to the team after having filled nearly every volunteer role available with the club. His passion and wealth of experience will no doubt be extremely valuable to Milky and the team over the course of the season.
Stay tuned for more information about pre-season training including start/finish times, but mark the 31st of January in your calendars!
