Steve Doyle looking to maintain success in 2022

Steve Doyle is looking to continue Port Hill's success in the Hawke's Bay Women's Premiership as the head coach in 2022.

After leading the team to the league title in 2021, Steve is hoping to develop the strength of the squad and continue to achieve as a group. We had a chat to Steve about his football history, his goals for the season, and his favourite Premier League club and moment:

I have been involved with Port Hill United FC for over 17 years, since I moved here from Wellington. I have had varied roles with the club, but by far my favourite and most rewarding has been as a coach. Since being in Napier, I have coached Womens football at social and first team level. I have also worked on the Central Football's FTC program with U16 and U18 girls, and have enjoyed developing a Football program with Sacred Heart College.

I am proud of the work Port Hill United have done, and continue to do, to support the women's game in Napier. My goal this year is to continue to develop our pathway for all the girls involved with the club, and provide my team the opportunity to continue to grow and develop their skills for next year's step to Federation football.

My favourite team is Arsenal, after been taken to Highbury when a young NZ rugby player - it started me on my path of a football fan, player and eventually coach. My favourite player is Dennis Berkamp, an amazing, technically skilled footballer, who played for the team with real passion and enjoyment.

My favourite moment would be the Invincibles season, for me it showed how teamwork and players belief in each other can get you over the line, especially in those tough moments.

Pre-Season training starts Sunday the 23rd @ 9am at the clubrooms at Marewa Pak. Tuesday trainings will start on Tuesday the 22nd of February after the completion of 7 a side.

Any women keen on playing in 2022 or simply learning more about football are encouraged to join in on pre-season training or come along and have a chat to Steve. The club is looking forward to the successes that the new season will bring to Steve and the squad!
