Big day of footy with some big results

Two competition matches, a friendly and a pre-season hit-out meant Ranga fans had plenty of footy to watch at the club on Saturday.

The Under 21s kicked things off at midday on Bell Park, sending another strong message to the competition that they are going to be a force in 2025.

For the second week in a row, they notched up 83 points, but this week kept an impressive clean sheet, not conceding any points.

Ben Hoddle, Lenika Toilolo and Paula Cakautini all grabbed two tries a piece while PJ Field knocked over eight conversions and scored one try for a 21-point haul.

The team have Easter weekend off before travelling to Gribblehirst Park to play Eden the following weekend.
Our Belles had a pre-season hit out against University. The match was played 10-a-side and while the Belles had promising patches throughout the game, they were soundly beaten by the visitors.

A last minute default meant our Prem 2s automatically advance to the Patrick Tuituplotu kock-out Cup semi-finals later in the season and they instead played a friendly match against the Waitakere City premiers. IN a true team performance 11 players ran in 12 tries, the final score. 70-5.

Nine players ran out for their Prem 1 debut for the Ranga against College Rifles in the Keven Mealamu knock-out Cup quarter final.

Lead onto the field by captain Moses Hafoka he took it upon himself to open the scoring with an early try. Playing into the wind Pakuranga were forced to work hard for their opportunities but went about accumulating points across the match to secure the 39-7 victory.

Midfielder Gary Basson and loose forward Vili Havili both scored tries in their first premier matches.

Coach Boof said they were pleased to record a home win.

“We talked about it before the game that we hadn’t lost at home last year and we wanted to build on that.

“We’ve got a short turn around now so we’ll look at the videos and see what we need to work on, but we only have Tuesday training before some big games on Thursday,” said Boof.

Heading into the long weekend, the Prem 1s will host Waitemata at 7.15pm on Thursday night, while the Prem 2s kick off at home at 5.30pm against East Tamaki.
