Sport Tasman - Sport Start Funding

Sport Start is a funding initiative for families where financial hardship is a barrier to participation in physical activity.  The fund allows more tamakiri and rangatahi to take part in physical activity opportunities by providing the financial assistance they need.  The fund provides a grant to remove or reduce the registration fee for a sport.

The programme covers Nelson, Tasman, Marlborough, Buller and Kaikoura

T’s and C’s

- Age Group: 5-18 year olds

- Current Community Services Card holder (either in the child or guardian’s name)

- Limit: Up to $30 per child (tamariki ages 5 to 12 yrs)

- Limit: Up to $50 per child (rangatahi ages 13 to 18 yrs)

- Up to 2 applications per calendar year per child*

(*Up to 2 sports can be funded on one application, however, a multi-sport application counts as your yearly allocation)

Funding rounds are processed and paid out monthly, on/around the 20th (excludes January)

Applications to be submitted by the 10th of the month to be paid out that month

When approved, funds are paid directly to the Registered Provider School/Club/ Organisation (any difference between fees and funding is NOT covered by Sport Tasman)

Funding must be used for sport subscriptions only: for example, it cannot be used for travel or uniforms
