Rangitoto College is one of the leading Hockey schools in New Zealand. The school caters for a wide range of levels and looks to develop players during their time at the school. Rangitoto has recently laid an Olympic standard water based turf, which teams will train and play on throughout the season.  In 2013 the school hosted 2 international test matches between Korea and New Zealand and have accommodated the blacksticks men and women as a training venue.

Nationals - Tournament Week

New Zealand Seconday Schools tournaments are held in late Term 3. Both our 1st XI Boys and Girls attend these tournaments every year. Our 2nd XI Girls and Boys may also attend their respective tournaments.

It is an expectation that all 1st XI Boys/Girls attend the nationals if they are selected for the premier team.

In addition to national tournaments, we also sent a girls team away to Australia last year - a tour that was a huge success and has prompted us to look at more such opportunities in the future.

Hockey and Netball Trip to Australia 2018

Australia, it was nothing short of an incredible experience that none of us students will forget.

During the Term 1 holidays, Rangitoto College sent one girls hockey team and two girls Netball teams to Australia for the first time in the college's history to compete against other schools and clubs from around Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

This Tour was a great way for us girls to experience some international competition and learn from the expenses provided by strong oppositions. It allowed us as students to expand our skill set and develop a widened sense of understanding for our chosen sport. Both the netball teams and hockey teams enjoyed themselves immensely and supported each other through both victories and losses.

For those year 13’s who went, it was a great way to start our last year of Hockey and Netball for Rangitoto college and for everyone it was an experience that has shaped and influenced us as players to strive to be the best we can be, at our chosen sport.

On this tour, we had a collection of Coaches and Teachers to help make the trip run smoothly including Mr Elliot Bartholomew, Ms Jackson, Ms Sowter, Ms Thompson and Ms Abbot. Along with competing, we were lucky enough to receive professional coaching in both Netball and Hockey by Amanda Sheaffe and Tracey Bruce for Netball and Neil Shearer for Hockey. These sessions benefited us greatly and helped us improve our skill sets.

Overall this Australian tour was an insightful and great learning experience for all those who went and one that I hope Rangitoto college will continue with in future years.
