I don't know anything about BMX but it looks AWESOME!!
BMX is an amazing sport for helping kids (and adults) build confidence and resilience! The skills you learn at BMX transfer to all other biking disciplines and it is FUN!!!
We know it can be a bit daunting when you are first starting out, so we've put together an FAQ page here for everything you need to know.
Our club members are always happy to share their knowledge, so please ask if you have any questions.
Start Up to Race Programme
This is our kids programme for beginners. Learn the bike skills required to become a great BMX rider.
Thursdays from 4.30pm during Terms 1 and 4.
All riders are welcome. Children age 3/4 and up. We recommend at least two terms of Start up to Race before moving on to Intermediate Training.
How do we sign up?
You can turn up to the first session on Thursday 9th October 2025 or contact the club via facebook or email rotovegasbmx@hotmail.com
What is the cost?
You can come along for one free session to try it out. After that you will need to pay a membership fee.
You will need to purchase a Club Membership ($100 per year) plus a Race Licence ($30 - $80 per year). These are valid for one whole calendar year (January - December) and need to be renewed each year.
Visit us at Race Control for more details.
What equipment do we need?
- Long sleeve top
- Long leg pants (or shorts with knee and shin pads)
- Socks and closed in shoes
- Gloves & Helmet* (full face helmet required if riding from the gate)
- Bike* (BMX or Dirt Jump bike. Younger kids can use their own strider or mountain bikes)
- Children under 8 years old as at 31 December are also required to wear knee and elbow pads
*Loan bikes, helmets and gloves available (subject to availability) for $5 each per night. Eftpos is available.
What does the programme involve?
- Riders are divided into groups based on approximate ability and each group will have 1-2 coaches.
- Groups take turns riding different parts of the track learning how to balance, standing up to pedal, when to pedal and how to pump.
- Riders will work towards riding from the top of the 5m ramp and how to balance on the gate. Every rider can do this at their own pace, there is no pressure to ride from the top if they are not ready.
- At the end of the session each week there is a small prizegiving where the coaches award 'Rider of the Week' and 'Crash of the Week' certificates.
Adults and 13+ Training
A fun session for adults to gain, build and practise BMX skills.
Have you been watching the kids having an epic time and thinking you'd like to give it a go yourself? We have a growing group of mums, dads and other "big kids" who are giving BMX a go. Beginners are very welcome! Age 13 and up.
