Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I register my child?

We have two registration days at the start of the season at Brookside Park, Rolleston.

Monday 23 September, 5:00 - 6:00 pm

Wednesday 25 September, 5:00 - 6:00 pm

You can collect a form from us at Brookside Park on these registration days or any other training night, or register online using our registration form.

Can my child try athletics before registering?

Yes. Children are welcome to attend a training night before registering. Please get in touch with us or come down to see us at Brookside Park on a training night.

Athletes registered with Selwyn Athletics can have two free trial track and field competition days (Interclub). Get in touch with us if you would like to sign up for an Interclub trial.

How old does my child have to be?

Club nights are suitable for children aged 4 years and up.

Interclub caters for children aged 7 years and up. Although younger athletes can register for Interclub, they will compete in the 7 year old age group.

Ages for the season are taken as at 31 December.

When is the first club night?

Our fist club night is on Monday 14 October at Brookside Park, Rolleston.

Club nights start in Term 4 and finish in Term 1 the following year.

Monday, 5:30pm - 6:15pm, ages 4-11 years

Monday, 6:30pm - 7:30pm, ages 12+ years

What is the difference between club nights and Interclub?

Club nights are a mix of fun, technique and competition for ages 4 years and up. Club-registered athletes train once a week on Mondays and are eligible to compete in club competitions and the South Island and/or North Island Colgate Games.

Cub-registered athletes (aged 7+ years) can compete in the Interclub competition by becoming interclub-registered athletes. Interclub competitions for athletes aged 7-14 years are held on Saturday mornings at the track at Nga Puna Wai. Athletes aged 15+ years can compete in the Senior competition on Saturday afternoons at Nga Puna Wai. Interclub-registered athletes train with club-registered athletes on Monday and also train on Wednesday.

How do I get involved as a parent?

There are lots of ways to get involved with Selwyn Athletic Club, and athletics events could not run without the support of volunteers.

If you are keen and willing to get involved, please get in touch with us or come and talk to us at Brookside Park on a training night.
