Nominations have officially closed for the 2026 Forsyth Barr Hawke's Bay Sport and Recreation Awards, with organisers delighted by the strong response from across the region.
A total of 95 nominations were received across the awards programme, reflecting the depth of talent, leadership, innovation and community contribution that exists throughout Hawke's Bay's sport and recreation sector.
Sport Hawke's Bay Chief Executive Ryan Hambleton said the quality of nominations received demonstrates just how passionate Hawke's Bay people are about recognising those making a difference in communities across the region.
"We have been incredibly encouraged by the response. The level of engagement from clubs, schools, sporting organisations, volunteers, whānau and community members has been outstanding."
"Every category has attracted high-quality nominations, making the task for our judging panels both exciting and challenging. The nominations highlight extraordinary achievements on the national and international stage, but also the remarkable volunteers, coaches, leaders and community builders who work tirelessly behind the scenes."
The awards were relaunched in 2026 to celebrate achievement across the full spectrum of play, active recreation and sport, with categories recognising athletes, teams, volunteers, clubs, innovation, community impact and contributions to increasing Māori participation.
Sport Hawke's Bay have noted strong representation across all categories, with nominations showcasing excellence from grassroots participation through to elite international performance.
Judging is now underway, with independent panels reviewing nominations before finalists are announced in the coming weeks.
The awards ceremony will be held on Thursday 3rd December at the Napier War Memorial Centre and promises to be a significant celebration of the people and organisations helping shape a healthier, more active and connected Hawke's Bay.
