SOUTHERN RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB

Southern Rugby Football Club was founded in 1884 after the amalgamation of the Caversham Football Club and the Pacific Football Club. Southern Rugby Football  Club, or the "The Magpies" as we are known, has a long and proud history in the  Dunedin area and is one of the most traditional rugby union clubs in New Zealand.

We provide an excellent club environment which encourages players to achieve to their full potential, through strong traditions, loyalty, excellent administration and coaching, and a friendly, family atmosphere.  

​​​​​​​We offer great facilities and all players are welcome to join us in both Junior & Senior Grades. For those new to the city you can find us at Bathgate Park which is on the corner of Hillside Road and Helena Street, South Dunedin.

JUNIORS

Southern Rugby Juniors are a powerful force in club rugby in Dunedin. These kids are our future and we respect the positive impact that Rugby has on their lives.

The club has a rich history over the century it has been in existence and has passionately been a part of New Zealand club Rugby since its inception. Southern Rugby is proud of the fact that it is a community based club, with a large and diverse membership of all ages.

We believe that the longevity and success of the club has been aided by the focus on the grassroots, or younger members, of the club. The club actively encourages young people to join and the benefits in this regard are to:

* Share the passion for the game of Rugby

* Retain a good level of health and fitness and meet new people

* Learn the importance of fair play within a competitive team atmosphere

* Foster the attitude that hard work and practice produces positive results
