JOIN OUR TEAM

Rugby needs referees and whether your ambitions are to help out in Primary School grades or become Southland's next International referee, we want to hear from you.

Refereeing rugby is a great way to give something back to the game, and if you are ambitious there is a career pathway for referees, just like players and coaches.

Referees can elect to referee at their chosen level, or attempt to reach the highest levels of club and representative rugby.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT

Like players, referees are assigned coaches to help them to develop, so when you join you won't be on your own. We host training and development meetings every Thursday in Invercargill and fortnightly on Tuesday's in Gore, as well as weekly fitness trainings. These are great to get to know and learn from other referees and sit down with your coach.

FLEXIBILITY

Want to start off on the sideline as an Assistant Referee or worried about work clashes? No worries. Let us know what works for you, even if you are only available on week days or every second week we would love to have you join.

HOW TO JOIN

If you have any questions, wish to attend a course or have decided you'd like to join our team and become a Rugby Southland Referee for the 2022 season please contact rugbysouthlandreferees@gmail.com or message us on Facebook.

RUGBYSMART

In order to referee in 2022 all you have to do is complete an online registration, RugbySmart e-learning and attend a RugbySmart workshop. The Referee RugbySmart will be held at the SBS Bank Referees Lounge (Rugby Park Stadium) on Thursday 17th March 2022.

YOU MAKE THE CALL 2022

We are hosting a course for high school students later in 2022. This is aimed at anyone who is interested in becoming a referee, as well as players who want to learn more about the laws of the game. A maximum of 10 NCEA level three credits are available to those who complete the course and accompanying course work.

ASSOCIATE REFEREE COURSES

Associate referee courses will be held throughout Southland in 2022. These give volunteers a chance to learn more about game management in a practical sense and allow participants to take control of games.
