Sportsfit Club was formed in 2013 after not playing for a couple of seasons to have babies, a group of mates got together and made their own social team to get back on the court. Founded by Jules Hansen and Cherie Richardson.
After a great first season, more friends wanted to join back in, and the "team" became a strong regular fixture in the Gisborne Netball Competition.
In 2015 we had a great season and finished Runners Up in the A Reserve Grade. The taste of winning gave the bug back to a few players who wanted to get in some more competitive games before hanging up their shoes.
2016 we had 2 teams - Tatapouri Sportsfit, and Tatapouri Social. The Sportsfit team made the goal to earn a spot in the A Grade that season. After an unbeaten first round, Sportsfit were promoted, and became a tough competitior for the A Grade teams. Finishing the competition rounds in 4th, the team had a dream run through the Semis rounds and made the A Grade final, eventually taking the win over the unbeaten Taiki by 1-goal in the final! Social was competitive in the 1st Grade.
2017 the team was again strong in the A Grade and again made the finals, however lost to IMS HSOG Masters to finish runner up. Social again was strong throughout the season in the 1st Grade.
2018 Sportsfit had a great first round and advanced to the Challenge Round to play off against the premier teams. Despite some competitive games, we didn't get promoted to Premier and had another competitive A Grade season. Again finishing in the top four, however lost the semi to finish the season in 4th. Social also finished in the top 4 of 1st Grade.
2019 saw a 3rd team join the Sportsfit club. Sportsfit played in A Grade, Sportsfit Social played in 1st Reserve, and Sportsfit Magnolias played in 2nd Grade. Both Sportsfit and Social had great seasons, again finishing int he top 4 of each grade. Magnolias had a fantastic season and won 2nd Grade.
2020 was a different season due to the CoVid-19 restrictions and changes, and we had 2 teams in the competition. Sportsfit again finished top 4 in A Grade, and Sportsfit Social (a combined team of both Social and Magnolias) were Runner Up in the 1st Reserve/2nd Grade.
2021 we have grown back to to having 3 senior teams. We introduced an intermediate team to the club for the first time. Our top team played in the inaugural Premier Reserve Grade introduced this season. We were stoked the girls made the finals!! They lost the final vs Horouta 22-20 to finish Runners Up and receive the Jaymee Watson Memorial Cup.
2022 we had 3 teams again, and 3 intermediate teams. The Tav joined the Sportsfit family as sponsor of our top team, and The Tav Sportsfit played in the A Grade semis, and finished 3rd=. Both Tatapouri Sportsfit 2 and Social finished 3rd= in the 1st Reserve Grade. Our Sportsfit Piwakawaka Intermediate team won the Intermediate B Grade. Thanks to Moni & Rilee, Cherie and Allisa for coaching our up and coming netties.
2023 was our 10 year anniverary as a club. Some of our past members dusted off their old netball shoes and an "Old Girls" team was formed, kindly sponsored by Brendan Fry Builder. They embraced the new uniform rules and repped the club in black singlets and tights - way to be Gizzy trailblazers! We had a successful season, with 3 of our 4 senior teams playing on finals day! The Tav Sportsfit won A Grade, while the BFB Sportsfit OGs had an exciting final that went to double extra time!! Unfortunately the old girls finished Runner up, but we hope they all have another season in them! The Social girls had a fantastic competitive final, and also finished Runner Up. In the intermediate section, the Sportsfit Pohutukawa placed Runner up in the B Grade, and Sportsfit Piwakawaka played in the D Grade. Thank you to Moni and Rilee for coaching the tamariki this year.
