Nominations for the 2024 ILT Southland Sports Awards are now open.

The 2024 awards mark 70 years since New Zealand’s longest running event of its kind was first presented in 1954.

The awards, which are owned by the Southland Amateur Sports Trust and presented by Active Southland, aim to inspire the community, recognise and honour outstanding achievements and service and promote positive sporting role models.

Active Southland chief executive Vanessa Hughey-Pol said this year’s awards would not only look to celebrate another positive year of Southland sporting achievement, but also tell some of the stories of the past seven decades.

“As a province sport is part of our DNA and Southlanders have always defied the odds to achieve on the national and international stage. These awards are a great opportunity for the sporting community to come together and celebrate.”

World Cup-winning Black Ferns prop Amy Rule was last year’s ILT Senior Sportsperson of the Year, with national motorbike racing champion Cormac Buchanan taking out the junior category.

Other categories include Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Masters Achievement, Services to Sport and Community Impact award. The Official and Administrator awards have been combined.

Nominations can be made by a regional or national sporting organisation, club, school, individual or group.

Nominations close on April 17 and the awards will be held at Ascot Park Hotel on June 7. See below for more information and to make a nomination.
