WELCOME TO SPC ATHLETICS


  • Won McEvedy Shield three times in the last decade: 2012, 2013 & 2014
  • Eleven consecutive wins in Old Boys’ Cup winners​​​​​​​

KEY EVENTS 

  • Early Feb - Year 9 Athletics Day
  • Feb - SPC Championships. - This is an inter-house competition. It is viewed as a trial for the Old Boys Athletic team
  • Feb - Old Boys Cup - versus Silverstream. This is a traditional fixture. Our top three students for each age group U14 - U15 - U16 - U17 - Open
  • March - McEvedy Shield - Always the first Tuesday of March. One of the biggest events on the Wellington Secondary School sports calendar. Our top two athletes in each event in each age grade compete against Rongotai, Silverstream and Wellington College
  • March – Greater Wellington Regional Championships – for students that excelled in the McEvedy Shield
  • Dec - Neville Shield - A junior athletics fixture against St Pat’s Silverstream for the Year 9 and 10’s.
  • Dec - NZSS Championships – we usually take 10-15 students to this event

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES - 24/25 SEASON

  • Year 13 Jaguun Gunregjav-Willers won the Senior 2000m Steeplechase at the NZSS Championships in December last year. More recent results included a new record in the Senior 800m at the College Sport Wellington regionals. Jaguun also represented NZ with the NZSS touring team to USA in April, and made the Athletics NZ Oceania Cup Team that went to Tonga in October
  • Year 13 Connor Kemp broke an 11-year McEvedy Record in the Senior 3000m race.
  • Year 12 student Zack Kimmins won the 100m and 200m at the College Sport Wellington Regionals Championships, breaking the 200m record. He had earlier broken the 200m McEvedy record
  • SPC finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Intermediate Shot put at regionals (TJ Tuimavave, Wayve Faleafaga, Tian O'Donnell-Russell).

JOIN THE TEAM

Year 8 students who want to pursue athletics are invited to the College group training in mid-January so they can mix and learn from our senior athletes.
