SPC Athletics Overview

• Won McEvedy Shield three times in the last decade – 2012, 2013 & 2014
• Eleven consecutive wins in Old Boys’ Cup winners​​​​​​​

KEY EVENTS 

• Early Feb - Year 9 Athletics Day
• Feb - SPC Championships. - This is an inter-house competition. It is viewed as a trial for the Old Boys Athletic team
• Feb - Old Boys Cup - versus Silverstream. This is a traditional fixture. Our top three students for each age group U14 - U15 - U16 - U17 - Open
• March - McEvedy Shield - Always the first Tuesday of March. One of the biggest events on the Wellington Secondary School sports calendar. Our top two athletes in each event in each age grade compete against Rongotai, Silverstream and Wellington College
• March – Greater Wellington Regional Championships – for students that excelled in the McEvedy Shield
• Dec - Neville Shield - A junior athletics fixture against St Pat’s Silverstream for the Year 9 and 10’s.
• Dec - NZSS Championships – usually we take 10-15 students to this event

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES - 23/24 SEASON

• Zack Kimmins 3rd in the Junior 200m at the 2023 NZSS Champs
• Jaguun Gunregjav-Willers won the U18 2km Steeplechase at the NZ club champs. He was also selected in the NZ team to compete at the Oceania Champs in Fiji where he finished 4th in the 2km steeplechase and received the bronze medal in the 4x400m relay
• Nelsson Tiumalu placed 2nd in the U18 Discus at the NZ Club champs and was also selected in the NZ team to compete at the Oceania Champs.

JOIN THE TEAM

Year 8 students who want to pursue athletics are invited to the College group training in mid-January so they can mix and learn from our senior athletes.
