Manager's role
The key purpose of the manager role is to enable the coach to focus on coaching.
Communication
- Be the primary point of communication between players and coach (Note: if a team has two managers, then it may be necessary to appoint a primary manager for communication purposes.)
- Help the coach to get messages to the team as the coach requires
- Inform the coach of any players who have notified you of their non-attendance to either training or a game
- Inform players and parents of game times and court number
- Alert players/parents to cancelled training/games because of weather or any other reason.
- Produce and distribute a list of team players and contact details including email addresses and mobile phone numbers of parents and players, if possible
- Manage any problems that may arise amongst players, parents and the coach. Involve the netball coordinator if required
- In discussion with coach (and players), agree and communicate player rotation policy. (Note: standard policies at this age/grade should try to achieve equal time ‘on the sideline’ rather than ‘equal time on court’ so that good availability for games is rewarded, not penalised. Being absent eg due to sickness or holidays is not time ‘on the sideline’.)
Administration
- Ensure all children have read and agreed to Motu Kairangi’s Code of Conduct;
- Roster parent scorers for each game
- Ensure umpire has been arranged for each game (SWIS will organise an umpire for each team for the season)
- Coordinate koha for umpires ($10 per game)
- Monitor which players are borrowed from or lent to other teams to ensure competition rules are not broken (after three games played in a higher grade, a player must remain in that grade).
Trainings
- Attend training sessions if possible or ensure that another adult is in attendance in case of injury or other emergency, particularly if youth coaches
- Provide support to coaches as required
Game day
- Register the team at the office (Blue container)
- Ensure players are in correct uniform at games and have removed all jewellery and piercings. Only medic alert bracelets are allowed to be worn and only then if they are taped.
- Ensure players have short, smooth fingernails
- Ensure all balls are returned to the ball bag after warm-up and game.
- Ensure bibs are collected after each game (and washed if necessary)
- Encourage friendly and encouraging cheering from the sidelines. Discourage parents and friends from giving the players instructions whilst they are on the court. This is the coach’s job.
