Home of the 2026 NZAFF National Flag Football Champions

The Tauranga City Tridents are the only full-service American football club in Tauranga and we are on the lookout for the next Patrick Mahomes, Puka Nacua, Derrick Henry, T.J Watt, Jordan Mailata and Travis Kelce in the Western Bay of Plenty area.  We've built one of the strongest flag football programmes in the country over the past few seasons. Our Open Mens team are back-to-back national champions, our Under-15s were crowned national champions in 2026 and our Open Womens team finished runners up. Many Tridents players have gone on to represent New Zealand internationally, showing there is a pathway for those who want to take the sport further. We now also have our contact football programme up and running and are shooting for the same level of success there.

We're about to embark on our 2026/27 season so now is a great time to join us. We are currently preparing for our local competition, the Moana Bowl, and following that will be turning our attentions to the NZAFF Flag Football National Champs in April 2027. Our home field is Waipuna Park in Welcome Bay and training days are Wednesdays and Sundays. 

As a club, we've built a supportive and inclusive culture and it’s something we’re extremely proud of. We have players regularly turning up to training from all walks of life, so don’t be afraid to come past and give it a go. We’re also committed to decreasing barriers to participation - we don’t want membership fees, associated costs or lack of equipment to put people off the sport. Our peewee programme (ages 8-13) is fees free. American Football is a fantastic game and we want it to be accessible to everyone! We are happy to work with individuals or families who are keen to play, but might struggle with fees, to find a solution that allows as many people as possible to get involved in the sport.
