Welcome to Te Mata Tennis Club
We are a small, friendly tennis club based next to Te Mata School on the corner of Church Lane and Te Mata Road. We are welcome and open to all ages and skill levels who want to learn and play tennis, whether that is for organised play or private games between family and friends.
We have been at this site since tennis started in Te Mata in 1905. After a peak from the 70s to the 90s, the club ceased to exist in the early 2000s after low membership. In 2024, the club was resurrected to bring tennis back to Te Mata.
We offer mid-week men’s and women’s evenings, after school coaching and various games between members and non-members in the local community. We also offer membership starting from junior (under 13) to adults at $100 or a family at $200. Signing up for membership gives members priority booking of courts outside of club meetings, access to club nights, tournaments, coaching and more!
We have two recently refurbished astroturf surface courts and a pavilion that is slated for refurbishing in 2027.
Our vision as a club is to see more kids playing the sport during school times as part of their physical education as well as outside of school hours, and to see more adult players coming down and playing tennis, too.
Ultimately we would love to see a busy little country tennis club with regular games on the weekends and organised tournaments.
We've come a long way in the last few years and still have plans to go further...
