TOKOROA ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL CLUB

The History of Tokoroa Association Football Club

Tokoroa AFC has been in existence for almost 70 years and will be celebrating our platinum jubilee in 2023.

From its humble beginning as Kinleith United in 1953, we have grown and prospered and now provide football for players of all ages and abilities, with our adult and childrens' teams taking part in Waikato - Bay of Plenty (WaiBOP) competitions.

Changing our name to Tokoroa AFC in 1958, the club moved to Tokoroa's Memorial Sportsground, where it was to play for the next 16 years. In 1974, Tokoroa AFC moved headquarters to our home of Strathmore Park.

Thanks to the efforts and input from the clubs dedicated players and supporters, a purpose built clubrooms has been established that overlooks the no.1 playing field and caters for senior and junior football all year round.

The late 1960s saw Tokoroa AFC as a trailblazer, being one of the first Waikato based teams to participate in the Northern League football competition, meaning matches within the Auckland area virtually every second weekend.

The club built a reputation for playing hard competitive football, but at the same time also developed the social side so that many lasting friendships were developed with the various Auckland based teams.

The clubs Altex Cup competition was for many years one of the great tournaments, which attracted teams from as far a field as Whangarei, Auckland, Palmerston North and Wellington.
