Our kura began as a rumaki unit with 23 tamariki at Parāwera School until their Board were no longer in a position to accommodate.
Where no other options were available, a whānau member offered their home as a venue to home school which continued for 4 months.
The Kura became a satellite under Te Wharekura o Maniapoto, formerly known as Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Oparure.
In 2009 members of the Board of Trustees and an appointed member from Te Wānanga o Aotearoa submitted an application to The Ministry of Education for Kura status.
In July 2011, Te Wharekura o Ngā Purapura o Te Aroha received status as a designated Special Character school under section 156 of the Education Act..
Our kura is currently Decile 4, located at 190 Factory Road, Te Awamutu
In 2012 the Tumuaki and Board Chair began negotiations with MOE for capital works funding for purpose build.
