About us and Smallbore!
The Upper Hutt Smallbore Rifle Club was established in 1947 originally in Trentham Military Camp, moved to Trentham Memorial Park, then after a fire the Club relocated to the Memorial Hall at Maidstone Park with a Range built by the members of the time. The Club is very thankful of the Upper Hutt City Council for the use of the building and the land!
Smallbore (.22calibre) Target Shooting is a very accessible sport for any gender, ability, fittness and age. The only limit is the shooters ability to hold a rifle in the prone position!
For those wanting to try the sport and see if it fits with their thing, the club has all the equipment, guidance and safety measures in place for you to give it a go. Contact us to arrange a time to ensure we are ready for you. Click for Enquiry
We have club rooms and a 12 mound (Position) 25 yard range, so there is plenty of room. The rifles are extremely accurate over the 25 yards. New shooters fire off a rest with 1 on 1 support and no expectations save for safety. Rifles are .22 calibre (small bullets) so there is negligible recoil - no sore shoulders!
The range is indoors so not subject to the regions gentle weather. The Smallbore season starts in March and goes through to October.
Should you have a go and find it spins your wheels, then ongoing training is provided that could lead to either competing for your personal best, club competitions or interclub shooting. This can lead to national or even international representation.
