Any time after 3pm for the 300 and 4pm for the 400 ,you will be regarded as a finisher , although you wont be classed as having completed the challenge . Yes it is a challenge to collect 300 to 400 points while riding either 300 or 400 km .
How does the event work .
1.Report to the start point by 9.30am on Sunday 28th April ready to receive the organisers briefing before departure at 10am .
2. Your odometer reading will be taken before you start and also at the final destination at the Moutere Inn
3. You decide before the event which checkpoints you will be visiting, bearing in mind that each checkpoint has a value varying from 25 to 50 to 75 to 100 . Note the lowest value checkpoints are generally close to the start point . The high value checkpoints are beyond the black stump in Banjo Country
4. All checkpoints will be displayed on the Nelson Ulysses website on an interactive Google Map .( Click on a checkpoint for photo requirement , points value , and GPS coordinates) A Checkpoint List will also be available on this website for you to print out . Checkpoints will be grouped in Four Regions - Nelson / Tasman / Golden Bay and Marlborough
The theme for the checkpoints is the Emergency Services - Fire Stations / Police Stations / St John Ambulance / Coast Guard base / Search & Rescue base
5. At each checkpoint you visit take a photo of the Emergency Service building , along with a Nelson Ulysses sign draped over your bike . This Ulysses sign will be provided at the briefing.Your photos will be checked at the final destination
6.Do not park in front of any Fire Station / Police Station driveway / Ambulance entrance. Obvious but …..
7. You do not have to go to all the checkpoints , only the ones you decide to visit in order to gain enough points to be a finisher . Some areas are checkpoint rich , however the distance covered in collecting these checkpoints will be insufficient and there you will have visit another area to collect the minimum amount of kilometres , either 300 or 400 km
RALLY SAFETY - you participate at your own risk , you are not racing anyone , you can stop for any reason and ride to the final destination at your leisure .
You do not need to speed . The time window is designed so that you can stop for small rests . 300 km divided by 5 hours is 60 km per hour . 400 km divided by 6 hours is 66 km per hour .
Enjoy our day and have fun
