Message from WaiBOP - April 3

Hi everyone,

We’re heading into a weekend that would have seen the majority of our senior football teams begin their 2020 campaign. As things stand, we’re still looking at an early-May start to the season, but I hope to have an update on whether this will still be possible, or if there will be a delay, next week.

We don’t have any on-field football just yet, but you can go online instead. NZ Football is promoting a FIFA 20 competition, with entries closing on April 10. You can find out more HERE. It would be great to see a strong representation from our region.

There is also a host of online material available to help you prepare for the 2020 season. The Fit4Football team is running a series of weekly workouts designed to help you get ready. More HERE. Many clubs are producing content too. So, choose your favourite exercises and get outside while the weather is still with us.

I’d like to encourage everyone to stay connected to your local club. We have some great clubs in our region, run by fantastic people who will be doing it tough right now while trying to hold their organisations together. A word of support or an offer to help would go a long, long way at the moment.

Clubs offer more than just the opportunity for you to play football. They are communities, both large and small, from which many life-long friendships have emerged. We’ll be doing our very best to get everyone back out there as soon as we can, so stay connected. If you can, please support your club by ensuring you’re registered and by being as ready as you can for when football finally kicks off.

As I said last week, we’re working with NZ Football, the regional Federations and other sporting codes. When we know more, we will let you know. Our website, direct emails (subscribe HERE) and social media channels will keep you up to date with our region’s news over the next month or so.

Please be kind and stay safe.

Best wishes,
Karyn
